IP Litigation


Alessandra Messing is a senior associate in Brown Rudnick's IP Litigation Group. Alessandra focuses her practice on patent litigation in the Federal district and appellate courts, and also has experience before the International Trade Commission and with Patent Trial and Appeal Board proceedings. Alessandra has extensive experience litigating in Federal courts throughout the country, including many of the most popular districts for patent litigation in Texas, Delaware, California and Florida. Alessandra handles all aspects of patent litigation including, prefiling investigations, strategic analysis of claims and defenses, case management, fact and expert discovery, depositions, Markman hearings, oral argument, all forms of motion practice, trial, post-trial proceedings and appeals. She has been recognized as a 2017-2020 "Rising Star" in Intellectual Property Litigation by Super Lawyers.

Alessandra has successfully represented clients in a wide range of industries, including mechanical and consumer products, smartphone hardware and software, power tools, manufacturing, optics, automotive parts and systems, apparel, wireless communications, smart speakers, LED displays, digital signal processing, networking, semiconductors and pharmaceuticals. She holds a B.S. Biochemistry, magna cum laude, from Northeastern University and has also taken an active role in the analysis of economic issues involved in patent litigation proceedings, including damages and the ITC's domestic industry requirement.

Alessandra has been deeply committed to improving diversity, equity and inclusion at her academic and professional institutions for over 15 years and is the 2020 recipient of Brown Rudnick's Ritvo Award for her sustained commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive workplace environment for all Brown Rudnick lawyers and staff. Alessandra is an active participant in Brown Rudnick’s recruitment and mentorship efforts and maintains an active pro bono practice working with the Sylvia Rivera Law Project, KIND (Kids in Need of Defense), Lawyers for Good Government and We The Action. Alessandra is also a co-chair of the Brown Rudnick New York Women's Initiative, which is focused on strengthening internal and external communities and advancing the professional development of women attorneys within the firm.
