Litigation & Arbitration


Mason litigates complex commercial and business disputes in federal and state courts. He also specializes in arbitration, both international and domestic. His commercial litigation and arbitration practice cuts across a wide variety of industries including, among others, commercial real estate, finance, securities, accountancy, labor, insurance, reinsurance, oil and gas, information technology, banking, telecommunications, transportation, construction and private equity. Mason also defends civil regulatory actions brought against individuals and business entities. In addition, Mason conducts internal investigations for the boards of directors of corporate entities when wrongdoing is alleged or uncovered. Whatever the industry or the amount at stake or in controversy, Mason brings total commitment to each of his clients and views all cases as equally important.

Before joining Brown Rudnick, Mason served as law clerk to the Honorable P. Kevin Castel, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York, the first federal court to hold session in the United States. Prior to that, he was a litigation associate with Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver, & Jacobson LLP and Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP. Mason credits the great judge he worked for and the brilliant lawyers he worked with early in his career with instilling in him a drive to achieve the best possible results for his clients while maintaining the utmost integrity and commitment to ethics and professional responsibility that is vital to a fair and just legal system.

In law school, Mason was Articles & Notes Editor for the St. John’s Law Review. Prior to attending law school, Mason was a theatrical stage technician for some of the world's greatest theatrical venues including, among others, Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden and Lincoln Center. Mason’s specialty was lighting and he had the opportunity to work with great talents such as Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Green Day, Radiohead, Frank Sinatra, BB King, The Rolling Stones, Metallica, The Ramones and Stevie Wonder, to name just a few. Mason also worked in television and film including, “ABC World News Tonight,” “One Life to Live,” “The Conan O’Brien Show,” “The MTV Music Awards,” “The Grammy Awards,” “The ESPY Awards,” “Ransom,” “Die Hard III-With a Vengeance,” and “Music from the Heart.”


Successfully litigated $300 million claim on behalf of the liquidators of an off-shore feeder fund damaged by the collapse of the world’s largest commodities broker after massive fraud exposed.

Successfully arbitrated international contract dispute regarding a $1 billion international fund under the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) rules.

Successfully arbitrated claim that resulted in the recovery of $1 billion for property damage and business interruption losses arising out of terrorist attacks on The World Trade Center; matter involved complex and novel issues of valuation and insurance law.

Successfully sought dismissal of RICO claims asserted against individual by foreign sovereignty.

Successfully sought dismissal of RICO claims asserted by creditors against officers and directors of a defunct pharmaceutical company.

Successfully sought dismissal of fraudulent conveyance claims against officers and directors of a dissolved enterprise.

Successfully prosecuted air carrier claims against aviation insurance company stemming from the theft by airport employees of gold bullion and bearer bonds from Shipohl Airport in Amsterdam.

Conducted vast internal investigation of a large mortgage bank’s contested practice of valuing specific components of securitized mortgage pools; drafted and presented findings and conclusions to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, New York Federal Reserve Bank, Office of Thrift Supervision, F.B.I. and F.D.I.C.

Litigated dispute regarding a defalcating reinsurance intermediary on behalf of one the world’s largest insurance companies.
