Brown Rudnick Signs on for Mansfield Rule 3.0 Certification to Increase Diversity in Firm Leadership
PUBLISHED ON: 10/11/2019
NEW YORK, October 11, 2019 - As an important next step in our Equity, Inclusion and Diversity efforts, we are pleased to announce that Brown Rudnick LLP has signed on for Mansfield Rule 3.0. Brown Rudnick is one of 102 law firms signed on to pilot Mansfield Rule 3.0.
Under the Mansfield Rule 3.0, law firms committed to affirmatively consider at least 30 percent women, lawyers of color and LGBTQ+ lawyers for leadership and governance roles, equity partner promotions, formal client pitch opportunities and senior lateral positions. The goal of the Mansfield Rule is to increase representation of diverse lawyers in law firm leadership by broadening the pool of candidates considered for those opportunities. "We are committed to the value of diversity and to ensuring the equitable and inclusive treatment of all members of the Brown Rudnick community," said Sunni Beville, the firm’s Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Partner. "Through our participation in the Mansfield 3.0 certification class, we remain dedicated to these important issues and will devote significant resources to initiatives and programs that help us recruit, retain and promote high-performing individuals from all walks of life."
The rule is named after Arabella Mansfield, the first woman admitted to the practice of law in the United States. It traces its origin to the 2016 Women in Law Hackathon hosted by Diversity Lab in collaboration with Bloomberg Law and Stanford Law School.
